February 24 - March 4
An interesting mix for this grouping, as the PGA's Honda Classic was in town, and like any big event, your choices are limited by sponsors/distributors. That does expand my beers, however, so it isn't all bad.
89. 90 Minute IPA - Dogfish Head Brewing - Milton, DE - 9.0%
This is almost unfair for the rankings because I know going in that this is one of my two favorite beers, period. So, I know that it is going to the top of the list. Just full-bodied, loaded with flavor, enough hoppiness to add some bitterness to the flavor. Yummy.
90. Fat Tire Belgian White - New Belgium Brewing - Ft. Collins, CO - 5.2%
This Belgian White has a ton of flavor, and is an interesting version of the usual Fat Tire Amber. Light enough to drink several, but not so light as to be watered-down. You definitely know you are having a beer. This would be very enjoyable at a picnic or at the beach.
91. Fear.Movie.Lions (FML) Double IPA - Stone Brewing - Escondido, CA - 8.5%
Not sure where to place this beer, as it is a Double IPA, but hazy, basically Stone's west coast take on the New England hazy IPA. They nail it perfectly, as it is a bit bitter, a bit citrusy, but also malty. I liked it a lot, and I guess I will place it in the Double IPA section, as it is that, more than hazy.
92. Death By King Cake (White) Porter - Oskar Blues - Longmont, CO - 6.5%
This was a huge surprise. First off, I didn't realize it was a white porter when I ordered it. I happened to decide to have one because it was Ash Wednesday, just one day removed from Fat Tuesday, so a King Cake seemed appropriate. This, amazingly enough, would taste delicious with a king cake!
93. Tangerine Wheat - Lost Coast Brewing - Eureka, CA - 5.5%
The tangerine flavor makes this beer truly exceptional. For those familiar with Lost Coast, this is their traditional Harvest Wheat, with tangerine, and it works! It takes over number 1 in the wheat category!
94. Old School Hefe - NOBO Brewing - Boynton Beach, FL 5.5%
Your standard Hefeweizen. Would I drink it again? Yes. Would I go out of my way to order it? No.
95. Negro Munich Dunkel Lager - Modelo - Mexico City, Mexico - 5.4%
This was like catching up with an old friend. Makes me remember that I did not have a category for Dunkel's, and means I have to decide whether to keep this as a lager or not. I am adding Dunkels, because I will likely have a few in September/October.
96. Especial - Negro - Mexico City, Mexico - 4.4%
I feel like everyone should already know this one. And, this begins the Honda Classic portion of my beer drinking experience.
97. Corona - Negro - Mexico City, Mexico - 4.5%
The conclusion of my Honda Classic beers. I did have the option of Corona Premium, but then the bartender described it as "lighter than Corona light". No thanks.
98. Hop Bullet Double IPA - Sierra Nevada Brewing - Chico, CA - 8.0%
I stumbled upon this delightful double IPA in the convenience store, and having never tasted it before, I bought a six-pack, and boy am I glad that I did. Surprisingly smooth for a double IPA, it does not have the bitter aftertaste that you would expect. Very good.
99. Meterhaze Hazy IPA - West Palm Brewery and Wine Vault - West Palm Beach, FL - 5.6%
Can you make a hazy IPA that doesn't taste or feel pulpy like a bad orange juice? Apparently yes, yes you can.
100. B4 Blonde - West Palm Brewery and Wine Vault - West Palm Beach, FL - 4.9%
This is a good everyday blonde. I highly recommend it.
101. Who Did This Golden Stout - West Palm Brewery and Wine Vault - West Palm Beach, FL - 6.3%
Is there anybody out there with the distinct impression that I might have gone to the West Palm Brewery and Wine Vault sometime in the past week or so? If so, then you are correct. And, because of that, I found this beauty with highlights of cocoa nibs and coffee from local coffeeier (I think I just made that up) Oceana Coffee.
102. Russian Bot Farm Red Saison - West Palm Brewery and Wine Vault with Mad Robot Brewing - West Palm Beach, FL/Boca Raton, FL - 5.9%
I don't ordinarily order saisons, but the collaboration of the breweries, along with the fact that this was a red saison made it intriguing to me. It is definitely one to have again, because I am not sure how to fully explain it after just one beer. So, sign me up for a second!
103. A-10 Hophog Red IPA - Copperpoint Brewing - Boynton Beach, FL - 7.0%
Unlike the Russian Bot Farm, I knew what I was getting into with this lovely red IPA. A light malt and toasty flavor gives way to the hoppiness in a tremendous marriage of flavors.04
104. Single in Havana Belgian Ale - Barrel of Monks Brewing - Boca Raton, FL - 4.5%
Guava and other citrus abound in this lovely Belgian ale. They combine to form a masterpiece of flavor.
105. Three Fates Belgian Tripel - Barrel of Monks Brewing - Boca Raton, FL - 9.0%
A deeply golden colored Tripel with a unique flavor profile that is unlike most any Tripel you have had.
106. Caribbean Sour - Wynwood Brewing - Miami, FL - 4.0%
So my second sour beer of the year takes the top spot, as this had lots of flavor in addition to being sour. Flavors of various fruits, which my palate cannot definitively distinguish, but probably some mango, guava, maybe passionfruit and pineapple. This beer IS tart, but brings a lot more to the table. Would go great with ceviche.
107. Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale (Saison) - Boulevard Brewing - Kansas City, MO - 8.5%
Honestly, I only ordered this one because I tanked the last 2 rounds of bar trivia (although I did get the bonus correct to end up in 6th place), so I felt the name called to me. It was pretty good, but I was not in the mood to really pay attention. So, not really sure where to place this one.
