January 28 - February 3

Hooray more beer!!!  A look back at my beers from the past week, which included my second visit to a brewery this year (that rating/ranking to come in a later post.

40  Sunshine City IPA - Green Beach Brewing - St. Petersburg, FL - 6.8% ABV

A surprisingly light, smooth IPA.  I was a little disappointed because I wanted more of the hoppiness, bitterness (IBUs) that never seemed to really developed.  The flavors it did have were good, it just did not rise to my expectations.

41.  Tropical IPA - Biscayne Bay Brewing - Doral, FL - 6.5% ABV

This was just OK.  I tried it, along with the next beer - primarily because the brewer's representative was at the bar in which I was playing trivia and was giving away koozies for every one of the Biscayne Bay beers people ordered.  The citrusness was nice, but otherwise, nothing really special about it.

42.  Kaptain's Kolsch - Biscayne Bay Brewery - Doral, FL - 4.8% ABV

Meh, but hey - free Koozie (see above). Oh, as the first Kolsch of the year, it will at least hold number 1 in the rankings for a bit.

43.  Herd Mentality Stout - Playalinda Brewing Company - Titusville, FL - 4.5% ABV

Hearty, tasty, and very smooth, but unfortunately, I have had some absolutely amazing stouts so far this year. Do not let the fact that this is not amazing keep you from drinking it if you have the opportunity.

44,  The Calling Imperial Double IPA - Boulevard Brewing - Kansas City, MO - 8.5% ABV

Yes, I meant Kansas City, MISSOURI, in light of the President's problem with geography involving the city.  This is a delicious, double IPA, with a hint of sweetness, and a bit dry.  I would definitely drink this again, and it pairs well with something hearty, like perhaps a pork chop.

45. Traditional Lager - Yuengling & Sons Brewing - Pottsville, PA (and Tampa, FL) - 4.5%ABV

You know this one.

46.  Cafe Con Finn - Twisted Trunk Brewery - Palm Beach Gardens, FL  - 5.2ish% ABV

OK, so this is going to be a little disjointed and out of order, but I made I promise to myself to rate this beers as I drink them. Why disjointed?  Because my favorite beer at this particular brewery (1 of my "home" breweries that I frequent often) is the Finn McCool amber (named after a son of one of the brewers).  But, I did not have the Finn McCool when I first entered the brewery this week, because they have a Cuban Coffee Amber - brewing their normal Finn McCool with Bustelo coffee - a Cuban favorite.  DELICIOUS.  Not a super strong coffee flavor, with just a hint of vanilla.  But, enough coffee that it would be OK with breakfast!  The ABV is "ish", because this is a random brew, so I took the ordinary Finn McCool ABV.  Also, I am not sure whether to rate this as a coffee or an amber, so I will rank it as an Amber, and it will be very HIGH!

47.  Finn McCool - Twisted Trunk Brewery - Palm Beach Gardens, FL - 5.2% ABV

I did some injustice to my favorite beer at this location by having the Cafe Con Finn first. It lacks a bit after coming right after the coffee version of itself.  Still delicious though.

48.  Porter Please! - Steamhorse Brewing - West Palm Beach, FL - 5.2%ABV

So, I am still at Twisted Trunk, but having a beer of one of their sister breweries (same owners own/operate/brew) three different breweries around Palm Beach County, and the offer a couple of taps at each location for the sister breweries.  This is a particularly delightful porter, which is served on nitro, and heavy on the mocha and the coffee (or perhaps espresso) flavors.  This is something I will have a lot more of, for sure.

49.  Palm Beach Pilz - Twisted Trunk Brewery - Palm Beach Gardens, FL - 5.1% ABV

This beer was very refreshing, especially coming after the run of much heavier, stronger beers I already drank this day.  Ordinarily I tend toward heavier beers (IPAs, Belgians, Stouts, Porters), but this one happened to hit the spot.  I don't know if it is actually as good as I think it is, but sometimes timing is everything.

50.  Watermelon Saison - Twisted Trunk Brewery - Palm Beach Gardens, FL - 4.5% ABV

Although Saisons and Farmhouse Ales are not my ordinary cup-of-tea (beer?), I do appreciate high quality, and this is a high quality beer. It is unfiltered, and the watermelon flavor is present, but subtle.  Refreshing and easy to drink, Twisted Trunk accomplished exactly what they set out to do with this delicious beer.  Great with a shrimp cocktail, or perhaps even chicken fajitas.

51. Sunrise City IPA - Sailfish Brewing - Ft. Pierce, FL - 7% ABV

So this IPA was my beer of choice for the Super Bowl, and it paired well with football.  Enough alcohol so that your mood crescendoed with the end of the game, but not so much so that you could not enjoy the - what turned out to be excellent and exciting - end of the game.  All of the reviews say that it pours a delightful amber, but I drank it out of the can, which ruined none of the taste.  Looking forward to having this on-tap at some point.
