January 13 - January 27
So I look at my beer list, and I really need to do a better job of updating this site more frequently, otherwise this is going to take me a long time to keep updating. But, here we go.
As a reminder, I won't be doing some deep, metaphysical palate discussion of each beer, just a slight description, whether I like or not, any random thoughts, and on occasion, discuss pairings. I am doing this mostly to keep a running list of the best of each type - according to me.
23. Party Hat Hazy IPA - Sixpoint Brewery - Brooklyn, NY - 7.0% ABV
This is a delicious Hazy IPA, with a lot of flavor, even though it tastes light and is not super cloudy for a hazy. Its lightness is contributed in part - I imagine - to the fact that it has 0 IBUs, so it is not bitter at all. If you are looking for that bitter flavor, this is not for you, but otherwise, delicious.
24. Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout - North Coast Brewing Co. - Fort Bragg, CA - 9.0% ABV
DELICIOUS! Big, bold, rich flavors that do not seem to stop. At 9.0% ABV, it could be a lot higher in alcohol level, but the fact that it isn't makes it even more dangerous than its namesake.
25. Official Hazy IPA - Bell's Brewery - Kalamazoo, MI - 6.4%
This is amazing. So much flavor. I usually love Bell's beers, and this one is no exception. I had this on the same night (but after) Party Hat Hazy IPA, and although I really enjoyed that one, there is no comparison.
26. Last Stop IPA - Brew Bus Brewing - Tampa, FL - 7.2% ABV
A solid, but not spectacular American IPA. Good if you need one, but there are plenty of more out there that are better.
27. Luminescence Hazy IPA - Florida Avenue Brewing - Tampa, FL - 6.3 ABV
An average Hazy IPA. Sufficient if you do not have more to choose from not so good if you have more - which presumably would mean better - choices.
28. Amber Ale - Bell's Brewery - Kalamazoo, MI - 5.8%
A delicious amber. A lot of flavor, but does not overwhelm the taste buds. Very enjoyable, and at the risk of repeating myself, just like a lot of Bell's Brewery.
29. Reef Donkey American Pale Ale - Tampa Bay Brewing Company - Tampa, FL - 5.5%ABV
Welcome to the Tampa/Bell's portion of my drinking, apparently. The Reef Donkey is a very smooth APA, with just a super slight bitterness to it. I can drink a lot of this beer, and I enjoy it, but there are a lot of better Pale Ale's that I would prefer. But man, does this have a great name!
30. Free Dive IPA - Coppertail Brewing - Tampa, FL - 5.9% ABV
See, I told you we were in the Tampa portion of the segment. This is a delicious IPA, that tastes and feels a lot heavier than the 5.9% ABV that it brings to the table. This is a compliment as it means it brings a bigger, fuller flavor that it would ordinarily suggest. Very delicious.
31. Coors Light
We all know what this is, but sometimes you have to split a pitcher with friends.
32. Witfinite Raspberry - Infinite Ale Works - Ocala, FL - 5.5%ABV
This beer is Awesome. Infinite Ale Works claims that their Witfinite is a two time Best Florida Beer winner, so I thought I would try that version with Raspberry - at that was an excellent choice. Lots of flavor, but the Raspberry does not overpower the rest of the wit. I would recommend this to anyone that likes lighter style beers, fruit beers, or if it is just a really hot day.
33. Infinite Trails Pale Ale - Infinite Ale Works - Ocala, FL - 4.8% ABV
A really good pale ale. A little bite, which actually makes it better than a lot of pale ales. I would drink this again, if not for the fact that this brewery has a lot of even better beers.
34. Apeiron IPA - Infinite Ale Works - Ocala, FL - 7.0%
Out of the 6 different Infinite beers I tried, this was the only one that I was not remotely excited about. The brewery describes it as a Belgian-Style IPA, and perhaps that is the problem - the Belgian-style and the IPA flavors don't work well together in this one.
35. Into the Dark Unknown Imperial Stout - Infinite Ale Works - Ocala, FL - 9.0%+ ABV
This is a 9.0+ ABV because it is just a variation of Infinite's Into the Dark Roast Imperial Coffee Stout so that information was not/is not available as of this writing. This Imperial Stout is amazing. Just delicious, and it was especially welcome coming off the heals of the Apeiron. In case you cannot figure out from context clues, I was at this brewery, and Infinite Ale Works will be entry number 1 in my brewery portion of this blog. This could stand up to a heavy, hearty steak, but go just as well with a pork chop (but not with applesauce on the side, a bit too heavy for that), or even a meatloaf or chili.
36. West Floridian Belgian Quad - Infinite Ale Works - Ocala, FL - 10.5% ABV
Having enjoyed most of the earlier beers from Infinite, I decided to change styles again, and boy was I glad I did. This beer has a dark, almost crimson coloring, and a delicious nose that does not quite prepare you for how good it tastes. It has a lot of flavor, but is not so heavy like other quads. It almost has a light, sweet(er) taste that would allow it to pair well with almost any food items, from salads and seafood, to chicken, to pork and steaks (or other red meats).
37. Into the Dark Roast with Vanilla Imperial Stout - Infinite Ale Works - Ocala, FL - 8.3% ABV
As I was getting ready to leave Infinite Ale Works, the bartender, Daniel, asked how I liked the Into the Dark Unknown (#37). When I told him I thought it was awesome, out comes this delight. For a heavy beer, this was really smooth, and the hint of vanilla just put this beer over the top. Which, to be fair, it would be delicious over the top of some ice cream! But that being said, drinking this is still the best thing to do, as it is absolutely amazing. So good, and a great way to end my evening.
38. Half and Half (Guinness and Harp)
If you need me to describe this one, then you probably aren't ready this blog anyway.
39. Guinness Dry Irish Stout - Guinness - Dublin Ireland - 4.2% ABV
See number 38.
